Hello! My name is Michael Dennis and my wife and I are in the middle of starting a new church in Austin, TX. It has been a burn in my heart to see the local church capture the power that is described in scripture. It has forced me to ask, “What if church were different?”
What does “different” mean?
“Different” can be a scary word for people, however, we have found that the church
was never completely broken and never needed to be completely overhauled. We have found the local church to be complete, yet in the end it was our perspective that needed to change. Our expectations and our perception of the church that needed to change because when it does we will experience a completely different church! A church that is described and captured in scripture:
Ephesians 3:10
“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms”
Can you imagine if a local church was able to display the “manifold wisdom of God” that is intended in scripture? That is our hope.
What does “go, get, scatter” mean?
Throughout history the local church has followed the go, get, gather model. When a new church is getting started a group of people will go into a community, get a bunch of people, and when they have established enough people they gather on Sunday for worship. When this occurs thy will typically relax, rest, and lose their sense of energy and excitement.
Therefore, instead of the go, get, gather model we want to establish a church that will go, get, and scatter. When we come together on Sunday it isn’t to rest and relax until we get to heaven, but to encourage one another to be sent out again and to scatter across the city. Continually living on mission and be a blessing to this city.
This blog is dedicated to capturing those transitions and shifts.
